At Kilmarnock, we believe that our customers and sponsors are our partners.
We have come a long way since our humble beginnings in 1958, but none of it would have been possible without all of their contributions of the years.
By donating and outsourcing to Kilmarnock, our incredible partners have made it possible for us to provide more jobs and opportunities for individuals with different abilities.
In addition, they have also believed in our vision to create a positive environmental impact.
With their support, Kilmarnock undertakes a number of recycling initiatives.
Over 31% of our income comes from diverting waste from landfill & it’s our mission to ensure that this number continues to rise.

Every organisation and individual has the responsibility to protect our land and water systems.
We are honouring our commitment through our commercial services in the manufacturing, food and waste sectors to some of New Zealand’s leading corporates.
Our resource recoveries programme (including recycling and e-cycling), is expected to grow extensively over the next few years, as the environmental challenges we face escalate.
Kilmarnock was a key player in the government’s TV Takeback programme and we are now running our own Electronic Waste Recycling Scheme. We have extended our recycling programme beyond TVs and now process a range of electronic items. For one of our contracts, we package 15kg bags of crushed glass (that comes to us in bulk), which are then used for swimming pool filters. This initiative repurposes approximately 1,000 tonnes of glass per year.
Many organisations are looking to their resource use to find ways to reduce their carbon foot print. We are proud to work with a number of organisations that are wanting products to be cleaned for reuse, processed for re-purposing, tested for faults, or recycled. Through these contracts, we are able to make a valuable contribution to waste reduction and in the process, prevent less finite resources from heading to landfill.
The Kilmarnock Academy is the umbrella that encompasses four training components; our Health & Wellbeing programme; Flourish the Kilmarnock Way, the Hagley NZQA course and our own in-house bridging course.
Through recognised qualifications, Kilmarnock Academy graduates discover new talents and opportunities, as well as being supported to find sustainable work outside of our organisation.
As of September 2019, 41 learners have graduated from our two training programmes. In addition to this, 32 of those students (who were part of our partnership course with Hagley) have earned over 1,009 NZQA credits in numeracy, literacy, communications, and supported learning.
People with intellectual disabilities are disproportionately represented in the health statistics in New Zealand and abroad, especially in regards to preventable illness.
Good health is so important for a good life, but for many people with an intellectual disability, poor health is only too familiar.
We have set out to inspire and empower our team to understand and take control of their health through a comprehensive full-year Health and Wellness Programme, Flourish the Kilmarnock Way.
Our team are given the opportunity to work towards a Certificate of Achievement focused around the four core areas of wellness; nutrition, fitness, mental health, and learning.
As well as our in-house Friday fitness classes, we host CrossFit sessions, bingo, endless competitions, and aerobics.
