Since 2017, the Kilmarnock Academy has been breaking down barriers in education for people with intellectual disabilities. Through recognized qualifications, our graduates discover and develop their talents in a supportive learning environment. After completing the Academy programme, graduates are assisted in securing employment beyond Kilmarnock if they wish to do so.
For young Kiwis with a disability, there are few options when it comes time to leave high school.
Many watch their peers go on to further education, apprenticeships or straight into employment. Without a variety of opportunities and the freedom to make their own choices, they can feel like they have very little control over their lives. That’s where we come in.

The Kilmarnock Academy is a new approach, providing a personalized pathway to employment for people with an intellectual disability, giving them another chance to succeed in education.
With the right training, support, and encouragement, we can all achieve incredible things. Everybody learns differently, so accordingly our training programme takes our learner’s needs into consideration. Our teaching to the way our students learn, at the speed that suits them. We believe in a world where diversity is embraced and we can all, seek the support we need to flourish.
We partnered with a number of education providers to offer NZQA training and qualifications that are relevant to the work environment and give our team the skills they need to lead meaningful, self determined lives.
