This Trade Aid toy is made by artisans working with SIPA in India, this clown ring set makes a great gift for young children. SIPA use two methods for painting their wooden toys. Colour sticks can be used to apply colour while the product is on the lathe, and these are made in the workshop. Raw lakh is purchased and mixed with vegetable dyes from fruits, leaves, barks and seeds. All dye materials are first tested for safety. SIPA toys are made from a wood known locally as hale (Wrightia Tinetoria). It is a fast growing local wood which is consistently replanted. The wood needs to be seasoned for three months, then it is cut into shapes, and in most cases shaped on electrically driven lathes. Woodchips from the workshops go to the incense industry.
